2025 Roadmap
Hi! It’s been a while.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve taken a step back from streaming. It’s been even longer since I’ve written for this site. I no longer found enjoyment in gaming—it was starting to feel like a chore—so it was hard to find something to play, let alone stream or write about. Besides, there are enough people on the internet griping about the state of the gaming industry. So, what have I been up to?
I went back to university, having had to drop out the first time round. I’m now almost halfway through my final year and, I hope, on course for a first-class degree. It’s been weird going back but absolutely worthwhile—it’s the second best decision I’ve ever made.
The best decision I’ve ever made was saying “yes” to my other half—we’re engaged! That’s been pretty rad.
The cherry on top? I’m now an auntie to the cutest little bean that ever beaned. Watching this tiny life grow and start to walk and talk has, if you’ll indulge the cliché, put things into perspective.
I want to spend my precious time on things I love and that matter to me. Those two criteria are always shifting—but that’s okay. We should always be examining ourselves, our thoughts, actions, and priorities, lest we find ourselves out of time and full of regret.
Roadmap
I’ve already given the website a facelift—let me know what you think and if there are any bugs I haven’t squashed. All the legacy SWTOR content remains available.
I won’t commit to a streaming schedule while I’m still studying. It would be a disservice both to myself (given all the work I’ve put in so far) and to you, the audience. I would rather whole-ass one thing than half-ass two.
Streaming (for me, anyway) takes energy. It calls for practice and focus to remain engaging in a live setting for hours at a time while simultaneously trying not to be bad at video games. It’s also a gusty move: you’re telling potential viewers, “Hey! Look here! Listen to me!” If I’m going to stream, I have to be sure I’m worth your time.
Writing, on the other hand, has always recharged my batteries. It’s a craft I enjoy honing, so I’m going to get back to writing about the things that matter to me.
What Have I Got Planned?
Firstly, an updated home studio guide!
I also think I’m qualified to write a guide to video production with OBS: not just for streamers but for educators, who are increasingly delivering lessons and lectures this way (live and recorded).
Finally, over the last three years, I’ve refined my workflow for notetaking during lectures and producing beautifully typeset coursework with \(\LaTeX\) (using both Obsidian and VSCode). I owe a lot to the late Gilles Castel, upon whose work I relied. This system has made my learning easier and improved the quality of my writing, and I’d like to distill everything I’ve learned into a comprehensive guide.
For an example of \(\LaTeX\) typesetting, take a look at my Stats and Damage Calculation guide, where I made liberal use of MathJax to illustrate how SWTOR works under the hood. Whether you’re a student trying to get organised, an educator looking to streamline production of and enhance your lecture materials, or you just want to escape Microsoft Word, I hope you’ll find this guide valuable.
Join Me on This Journey!
I think there’s value in publishing this, in making these promises to you: I want to hold myself accountable and start making beautiful things again.
I’d love to hear about your own plans and goals for the year—drop a comment below or connect with me on social media. Let’s make 2025 amazing together!
